In today's modern age muscle supplements have become the answer for many young people to develop the body which they want to achieve. Younger users are taking supplements without thinking about the consequences that go along with taking them. Young athletes are choosing to buy muscle substances that they know nothing about. To get to the solutions on how to fix the supplement problem among young athletes, it is most important that we educate both the athletes, and their parents about the risks involved with taking muscle supplements.
It is vitally important to understand what the supplements are and why athletes take them. Creatine is an amino acid that is produced in the liver, pancreas, and kidneys, and it helps muscles replenish adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which fuels muscle contraction (Balsom). Creatine was made famous by the Major League Baseball player Mark Maguire, who openly shared with the public his daily use of Creatine. Mark Maguire broke the record for homeruns hit in a season, and since then Creatine has become the most widely used supplement out on the market. No one is sure about the long term side effects of Creatine. Some scientists believe that when being used by young athletes it may stunt the growth of the adolescent. Some of the short term side effects include cramps, especially in the legs, and upset stomach.
I used Creatine when I was 16 years old, and built up an extra 15 pounds of muscle while on the supplement. My main sport was soccer, and the extra muscle was great and helped me tremendously at first. Then problems started occurring in the lower half of my body. My legs would cramp while I was in the middle of a game, which had never happened to me before. It was then that I realized that Creatine was causing the cramps. Soccer requires a large amount of running, and with constant leg cramps I was unable to perform at the level I needed, so I stopped using the supplement. Within two weeks I had lost the extra 15 pounds, which was disappointing, but I was cramp free in the legs, which was a relief. Several of my friends who played football were also using Creatine, but the sport they played required less running, and more muscle. Therefore the supplement aided them in becoming better football players. The key to using supplements lies in the results you want to achieve, and the risks you are willing to take. It was foolish of me to take a supplement which was counterproductive to what I was trying to excel in. If I were told by someone that what I was taking would cause cramps in my legs, I would have stopped right away
Androstenedione (Andro) is an anabolic, muscle-building, steroid (Tarnopolsky). Anabolic steroids are drugs that have an anabolic or protein building effect similar to testosterone and other male sex hormones (Tarnopolsky). They mimic the anabolic effects of testosterone, build tissue, promote muscle recovery, and help strengthen the bones. The biggest misconception about Andro, is that since it is made inside of the body, that it natural. The body regulates the amount of Andro produced, and the addition of any extra is far from natural, rather highly dangerous (Glace).
While most experts believe that the side effects of creatine, if any, will typically be mild, many don't feel the same way about andro. Andro is capable of creating very severe side effects. Some positive short term effects are larger muscles and more stamina, which is why most people take them. The negative short term effects are fits of rage, acne, and baldness. The possible long term effects include liver disease, cancer, and heart disease Scientists are more concerned about amateur athletes, such as high school and college athletes, than they are about professional athletes. They are more concerned about amateur athletes because they are still growing and the supplements could possibly stunt their growth.
So if we know the possible effects of muscle supplements, why would anyone take them? . Some people think that since it is their body, they should be able to do what they want to it. Well I for one like playing soccer ... more

6 Characters Essay
In Six Characters in Search of an Author Pirandello illustrates the point that in art there is no one reality, only perceptions. Art is one perception held by the one artist, in the case of the play, the author, who brings this perception to an audience. To illustrate this principle, Pirandello uses many staging approaches and techniques to merge art and theater into real life, while highlighting the shortcomings of drama and art in imitating life. Four elements are used within the play: the Characters themselves, the lines spoken by the Characters, the play structure pertaining to acts and scenes, and the stage directions within the play.
The first main area of art and reality colliding in the play is the existence of characters who are referred to as Characters. Pirandello stretches the bounds of meta-theater by having actors portray Characters who swear they are not actors, when faced with other actors playing actual actors and a Director. The layers of unraveling of reality are astounding. The Characters must try and convince not only the Actors and the Producer of their true nature, but also the audience. Pirandello must convey his beliefs about the essence of art through the mouths of Characters seemingly unattached to the actuality of the theater around them. In the play, the Producer acts on stage in place of the author, questioning the sincerity and the true nature of the Characters, who become his representation of his art.
An illustration of the second point is in the lines of the Characters in the first pages of the play. In this section these characters are pleading with the manager to take an interest in their story. However, during their plea, these Characters fight amongst themselves, arguing their own perspective on the "drama" they "carry within" themselves. The father, who begins to tell the story of their "drama," is interrupted countless times by the mother, the stepdaughter, and the son. These characters argue about the lifting of the mother's mourning veil, about who instigated the split between the father and mother, and other such details. The father finally asks the manager to exercise his authority and allow him to speak uninterrupted.
Real life is not always free from interruptions and conflicts, Pirandello writes dialogue that would be more commonly used in everyday conversations. As the father describes "the whole trouble lies herein wordsI put in the words I utter the sense and the value of things as I see themeach man of us his own special world." Each character interprets their "drama within" differently, and as imperfect as that is, that is life, which art struggles to duplicate.
Rejecting the conventional framework of a typical play, Pirandello brings realism to his play by running his play without acts, scenes, or a recognized intermission. Instead, the play is broken up when the characters, accompanied by the Producer, adjourn off stage for twenty minutes to discuss and begin writing the character's story, while the curtain remains up. Later another natural delay of action takes place when a stagehand lets the curtain fall accidentally. This rebellion against a traditional format again illustrates Pirandello's intention to add realism to his play, to bring the element of a real life rehearsal to his play.
Finally, the last example of art and realism is the element of the play containing the play rehearsals within itself. "Louder? Louder? What are you talking about? These aren't matters which can be shouted at the top of one's voice." Says the stepdaughter, "If I have spoken them out loud it was to shame him and have my revenge. But for Madame it's quite a different matter." This section illustrates the largest split between life and art/drama. The stepdaughter is verbalizing the shortcomings of recreating life on stage. When life is mimicked in art it is limited by the artist's interpretation as well as the general restrictions within the artists own ability and control.
Art can never fully reproduce life on a canvas, on film, in musical notes, or on stage. Pirandello illustrates the shortcomings of art by allowing reality, these "most interesting characters," to interrupt a play in progress. With conflicting interpretations and no planned intermission breaks ... more
